He Has Given a Lifetime to the Making of One Mattress - Yours.

You do not spend up to five figures on a mattress because you need somewhere to lie down. Any mattress can offer that. You spend it because, now and then, a thing appears that has been made without compromise, without haste, and without the cheap modern assumption that comfort can be simulated with marketing language and layers of synthetic fluff. This is not that sort of mattress.

This is the work of a company that still believes luxury begins where shortcuts end. And at the center of it is Mike Emerson, a man who came to the craft the old way, by learning every inch of it, every material, every failure, every hidden virtue. He knows what lesser makers never bother to learn: that true comfort is not loud, not flashy, not temporary. It is quiet, exacting, and almost impossibly difficult to achieve.

A mattress like this is not expensive because it is decorative. It is expensive because it is rare. Rare in its materials. Rare in its construction. Rare in the patience required to build it properly. And rare, above all, in the conviction behind it. Mike does not build mattresses for people looking to make do. He builds them for those who understand that a third of life is spent in bed, and that the place where one restores the body, settles the mind, and disappears from the noise of the world ought to be made by someone who has devoted his life to getting that right.

That is why you spend up to five figures here. Not for excess. For mastery. For the pleasure of owning something few people will ever understand until they have slept on it.

One Imagines It In a Chateau.

Or In Your Home.

From a French chateau to an Italian villa to an English manor, these are the sort of places one might find a mattress of this caliber. See the Colton Black Label Collection in Asheville today or by private appointment.

Colton Black Label Collection

It is not a large collection. It was never intended to be.
Three beds. Each built around a material with a reputation to maintain. Each arranged with a certain discipline. The result is less a selection… more a decision.

The Copper Ion Black -

The Romans took much of their copper from Cyprus, and from that island gave the metal its enduring name: cuprum. One imagines it first in a vaulted chamber, glowing beside oil lamps, silk, and things of consequence. Here, its service is more intimate. Woven into the mattress, copper draws heat away from the body as the night advances, keeping one cooler, drier, and far less acquainted with the common indignities of overheated sleep.

Starting at $8,999

The Cashmere Cloud -

The name alone carries a passport. Kashmir. High country near the Himalayas, where beauty arrives with altitude and stays for centuries. Cashmere, among the softest materials in the world. Best for those who want softness and heat control.

Starting at $6,999

The Pantheon -

The Sort of Bed One Imagines Beneath a Roman Dome.  Deep, composed support with a lavish tufted surface and unmistakable presence.
Best for those who want grandeur with authority.

Starting at $4,999.

A quiet appointment. A guided comparison. Enough time to decide properly.

Most men enter a trade politely.
Mike Emerson entered with a broom.

He swept the floors, watched the veterans, and learned the craft from its least glamorous corner. But somewhere in that sawdust-and-discipline beginning, he became captivated by a rare idea: that sleep could be altered, improved, even transformed by the right hands and an uncompromising eye.

In time, he bought out the owner and built his own business in Iowa, earning his name the old way, through work too good to remain a secret. One store became many. Many became more than twenty. Yet Mike never drifted into the soft posture of an owner. He remained what mattered most: the man who knew how to build the bed.

Nearly twenty years ago, he came to Asheville and established Colton Mattress, named for his son. Since then, he has personally built thousands of mattresses by hand, reviving the methods that served generations before convenience began dressing itself up as progress.

And when he is not building, he is hunting. Better materials. Better techniques. Better answers to the oldest luxury of them all: a perfect night’s sleep. Cashmere. Copper. Talalay latex. Organic cotton. Materials with pedigree, temperament, and a distinct refusal to behave like the ordinary.

The result is Colton Black Label.

A collection shaped by decades, built by hand, and reserved for those who understand that true quality rarely announces itself loudly. It is simply known by the people who know.

See it in person. Speak with Mike. Discover what happens when a lifetime of craft, obsession, and discernment is stitched into a bed.
